currently watching the private practice episode where a couple gives birth to an intersex child (a child who appears to have genitalia of both genders). the couple wants the baby to undergo surgery so they can become a “he”, but addison ends up refusing to perform the surgery because the baby is healthy, there is nothing physically wrong with it.
intersex is such an interesting topic of discussion that i think you can’t make a decision or hypothetically decide what you would do if you were in that situation until you’re actually in that situation.
for me, initially i would say i would allow my child to decide which gender they feel is appropriate at the appropriate age, or just let it happen, as it happens and if they want surgery later on, then i will allow it. but i feel like it’s wrong to decide a child’s gender for them.
what would you do?
